Peripheral Nerve Stimulation
Are you struggling with chronic pain that persists despite conservative care options? If so, you may be a candidate for a non-opioid, minimally invasive treatment option that can help manage your pain. We offer Peripheral Nerve Stimulators (PNS), which provide long-lasting pain relief by sending electrical stimulation to block pain signals from reaching the brain.
Our PNS device is powered wirelessly and without an implanted battery, providing you with true “freedom” from batteries, cables, and implanted generators. With the external compact device, you can easily change therapy levels via simple buttons and recharge it via a micro-USB.
If you’re tired of living with chronic pain and want to explore a new treatment option, our PNS device may be right for you. It is covered by most major insurance plans, and our team is here to answer any questions you may have.
How Does It Work?
A Peripheral Nerve Stimulator (PNS) is a medical device that uses electrical stimulation to target peripheral nerves in the body. PNS devices are often used as a non-invasive method of pain relief, particularly for chronic pain that does not respond well to medication or other treatments.
The device consists of a small unit that generates electrical impulses, and one or more electrode leads that are placed on or near the neves that serve affected area of the body. The electrical impulses are designed to block pain signals from the nerves, providing relief for the patient.
PNS devices are typically used for conditions such as back pain, neuropathic pain, and other chronic pain conditions in the extremities. PNS devices are considered to be a safe and effective treatment option for many patients, but they are not suitable for everyone. It’s important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of PNS with Dr. Stephens to see if you’re a candidate for the procedure.
What Types of Chronic Pain can PNS treat?
Depending on the location of the chronic pain, a PNS can be used to treat various parts of the body, including:
1. Back: PNS can be used to treat chronic back pain by targeting the spinal nerves that transmit pain signals.
2. Legs and feet: PNS can be used to treat chronic pain in the legs and feet caused by conditions such as peripheral neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome, and sciatica.
3. Arms and hands: PNS can be used to treat chronic pain in the arms and hands caused by conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and brachial plexus injury.
4. Pelvic region: PNS can be used to treat chronic pain in the pelvic region caused by conditions such as interstitial cystitis, endometriosis, and pudendal neuralgia.
